The Butcher’s Block was recommended to me by a work colleague who was raving about their three-cheese meatball sliders…….so naturally I had to check it out.
Conveniently located in Wahroonga on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, this restaurant and cafe definitely stands out by being more hip/modern than the usual restaurants or cafes we have in this area.
Previously a butcher shop, it has been transformed into its current form by father and son team George and Anthony Karnasiotis who wanted to keep some of the history, hence the name and decor. Old meat cleavers being used as door handles plus a lot of other old butcher equipment gives it a rustic finish and theme.
There’s hip, young & good looking staff…..decent eye candy for the guys…..and also for you girls Service was quick and even though it was a full house, the staff gave plenty of attention and were very outgoing.
I was keen to try their sliders, however unfortunately didn’t seem like they were available today, or I just didn’t seem to find them on the menu. They did have a slow roasted pull-pork sandwich on the menu which ended up being my “go-to” and Mrs Spicey went with the crispy skin grilled salmon.
While waiting for our mains we ordered some drinks…….Snickers thickshake? YES PLEASE. Mrs Spicey had a cafe latte. (Sorry about the dirty slurpy image; I couldn’t wait to take the photo)
As you can see, the Snickers thickshake came in the retro style milkshake tin and was a meal in itself, very dense and sweet……..chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. I couldn’t knock this one out unfortunately and had to surrender as I wanted to leave plenty of room for lunch.
Mains arrive and the salmon looks fantastic, well cooked and a beautiful crispy skin. Mrs Spicey was in happyland……and as usual I didn’t hear a peep out of her during mealtime.
My Pulled Pork Sandwich arrives and it’s sitting on two halves of a light yet sweet brioche bun, pulled shredded pork and Dijon apple relish with curly pork crackling. Needless to say this was amazing although not a pairing to follow such a sweet thickshake. The pork crackling was amaaaaaaazing and gave me that sneaky I just found something special feeling as it wasn’t listed on the menu………YAY ME!
I want to go back for breakfast one morning when it’s not as busy, but that might be difficult as it’s so good and we bloggers aren’t doing ourselves any favours advertising these great spots. The only downside to The Butcher’s Block is that they aren’t open on Sundays, which is very surprising considering they’re so busy all the time; it would be nice though if they were.
